Engin fyrri tónlistarþjálfun er nauðsynleg, öllum er frjálst að velja þátttökustig sem hentar þeim hvenær sem er. Saman munum við uppgötva hvernig tónlist tengir okkur án orða, fær okkur til að hlusta, hlæja og deila gleði spuna!

Zapraszamy rodziców z dziećmi do wzięcia udziału w rodzinnym spotkaniu “Lifemusic” dedykowany odkrywaniu świata dźwięków przy pomocy specjalnie przygotowanego zestawu instrumentów.

Instrumenty niczym magiczne obiekty zapraszają dzieci i dorosłych do odkrycia właśnych sposóbów interakcji i zabawy z muzyką.

Lifemusic poprawia nastrój i jakość życia.

Lifemusic” Family Meeting

Children and parents are invited to join the “Lifemusic” Family Meeting and together explore the world of sound with a specially prepared set of instruments.

"Lifemusic" is an approach developed by dr Rod Paton from the University of Chichester (UK) who specializes in improvisation, community music and the therapeutic applications of music . The meetings are centred upon four basic principles, essential to music al and emotional well-being. These are:

  • Everyone is music al.
  • There are no wrong notes in music.
  • Every sound has a meaning.
  • Making music is an act of trust.

The facilitator guides the participants of all ages through the magical worlds of sound. The instruments — like magical objects — invite children and adults to discover their own ways of playing and interacting through music. No prior musical training is required, everyone is free to choose the level of participation comfortable for them at any moment. Together we will discover how music connects us without words, makes us listen, laugh and share the joy of improvisation!

The essence of Lifemusic, improvisation, is an instantly accessible music al tool which brings people into the moment, into the ‘here and now’. Lifemusic is positive and life-enhancing. Sessions may be stimulating and relaxing at the same time.

About the workshop facilitator: Adam Switala, Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Iceland, is a musiaian, composer and teacher. He has worked with children of the age group 0-100 years old in Iceland, Finland, Norway, Estonia, Poland, Germany, UK and the USA.

Polish spring blossoms in Iceland thanks to ACT IN_OUT and Vor/Wiosna festival!
We are inviting you all to Egilsstaðir where you will hear nuances of unique musical language created by Polski Piach - live!
Polski Piach (in literal translation – Polish Sands) is true dream team of friends: the trio features Patryk Zakrocki on acoustic guitar, Piotr Mełech on bass clarinet and Piotr Domagalski on basolia.
Their music is a blend of traditional primal blues and contemporary chamber music, as well as Polish folk sounds. „Northern Music Blues” magazine described their work with words "Very nice indeed. Blues as if Penderecki was writing blues".
Polski Piach project delves into the spiritual bonds that bind the sands of the Mississippi Delta, the Sahara Desert and the Vistula River. The group draws deep from the traditions of original blues, contemporary classics and desert trance in order to formulate their own musical language. A language which echoes their native landscape - meanders bending Polish rivers and weight of cloudy sky.
Musicians come from Warsaw improvisation scene and are associated with Lado ABC label.
Listen to sounds of Poland in Iceland on 25th of April!

Polska wiosna zakwita w Islandii dzięki ACT IN_OUT i festiwalu Vor/Wiosna!
Grupa czerpie garściami z tradycji oryginalnego bluesa, kameralnych klasyków i tańca pustynnego trance’u, aby sformułować swój własny muzyczny język.

Námskeiðið er þátttakendum að kostnaðarlausu, en þarf að skrá sig á This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Hámarksfjöldi þátttakenda er 15.

Open voice and Slavic traditional singing workshops

Since the beginning of time people have been gathered to sing together. In most cultures music had a very practical value - it was created to call the animals, to help during rituals, to spark dancing, to entertain and tell stories during long winters. Different chants were sung on different occasions and - as there were not many means of communication between the groups of people - each village had their own unique techniques and repertoire.

Thanks to years of ethnographical research and a new wave of young people willing to learn from their grandparents, we are able to preserve the traditional musical heritage of the old age, learn from centuries-old traditions, and sometimes transform them to make them relevant for the contemporary needs.

During the workshops we will dive in to traditional techniques of Slavic singing - the techniques that are sometimes called "white voice"/"open voice"/"natural singing" - based on traditional repertorie from Poland, Ukraine, Belarus and the Balkans. To make them better understood, each of them will be introduced and set in the context of the ritual year of Slavic calendar as well as traditional customs and beliefs.

The workshops will consist of both vocal training exercises as well as theatrical and whole-body-movement techniques facilitating group singing. Through numerous activities we will focus on "finding the voice" and merging it with the others. We will also learn a couple of simple dances accompanying ritual chants.

About the teacher:

Anna Sitko - ethnographer, folk singer and linguist. Since 2010 she has been engaged in her local traditional and folk music scenes, cocreating traditional music workshops, concerts and revival initiatives. Passionate dancer, musician, folk researcher and educator, focused on connecting people through music and timeless themes present in folk culture.

V O R - W I O S N A

Nasza Wiosna to wiosna polska.

Artystów wyjątkowych i różnorodnych.

To przede wszystkim utalentowani artyści, to młodzi ambitni przedstawiciele alternatywnych narracji we wspólczesnej sztuce islandzkiej i polskiej.

This year VOR/WIOSNA is a spring full of sounds. Sound is ephemeral, exists in space and fills it, only to then disappear. Sound can be compared to fragrance that surrounds the subject and enters it’s body to create a resonance box. Sound stays in the body for a moment and induces sensation similar to what Freud described as oceanic feeling.

In contrast to visuals, where we can close our eyes or turn our sight from something that we don't want to see, with sounds we are helpless; covering our ear will only dull the sound around us bringing to the front the echo of our own blood-circulating. We surrender to sounds that are all around us and fill our senses and while our visual senses are intrigued from only one direction, audio signals come from from all directions. The world of sounds wraps us and articulates - “my place of existence”. While listening to these sounds we are listening to our own existence.

In search for the sounds that define our own being we will dive in through a series of workshops leaded by polish instructors. Anna Sitko invites us to find our inner voice by white voice technique know from many folk traditions but especially characteristic for Slavic culture. Sounds have been with us from the beginning of our existence, and our first exposion to audio happens already as a fetus in the womb. Experimental composor Michel Chion describes this in a poetic way "that after perceived sound a mothers womb becomes a refined sound bath and hearing becomes a “ lonely queen” of our senses because of overwhelming word of fetal waters limits other senses to minimum". That is why musical and sound education is so important in childrens developments and because our festival always remember the "little ones" we prepared for them and their parents Lifemusic workshops lead by musician and pedagog Adam Świtała.

One of the main index in Lyotard’s concept of experimenting is included into widening the spheres of sensual perception but also experiment is necessary to self expression and creative process. Without a doubt any form of experimentation with sound is one of them.  Bases of electronic music composition are going to be revived by Beniovska - Dj and music producent that regularly performs as part of Canti Spazializzati - a workshop and concert series devoted to theories and practices of experimental music.

The main event of the festival is the opening of Installation: Stock For Future_Emotions, an exhibition by Stefan Kornacki that is the summary of 3 weeks in residency at Slaturhusid. The residency is a part of the project ACT_IN_OUT. Installation Stock For Future_Emotions is a homage to local community, its everyday rhythm and relation between members of the community and time, expressed in audiovisual form. Also on the 23rd in Herdubreid is a concert by Mammoth Ulthana a music duo (Jacek Doroszenko i Rafał Kołacki) that combines traditional acoustic instruments ( gongs, animal horns, bells and ethnic drums) with various electronics.

Ewelina Leszczyńska from Ex Anima foundation is going to talk about Warsaw Animation Festival and present a selection of animation movies from Poland and Ukraine created by women.

Special guest of our festival is Olia Fedorova multimedia artist living and working in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Olia works with the meanings and senses, studying the mechanisms and problematics of their (trans)formation, using the methods of performative intervention, observation and writing. During the festival a new poem by Olia is going to be presented outside Herðubreið.

Anthropologist Maurice Bloch says that everyday thinking is based on compacted clusters of different sourced signs that are more adequate to the audial sphere. Audial spheres are thick, multi- layered, covering and crossing each other. We live in never stoping vibrating zone that enfold us if we want it or not. Our Wiosna allows you to dive in ocean of sounds and what can be expressed by it: from laughter of joy to a scream against atrocity of war.

-Wiola Ujazdowska, curator of Vor / Wiosna

21-24 April, 2022

21-24 April, 2022

Tegoroczna Wiosna to wiosna pełna dźwięków.

Podstawy muzyki eksperymentalnej odkryje przed uczestnikami warsztatów z podstaw tworzenia eksperymentalnych kompozycji muzycznych Beniovska - dj i producentka z Polski tworząca muzykę elektroniczną.
Głównym wydarzeniem festiwalu bedzie otwarcie wystawy podsumującej prawie 3 tygodniowy pobyt rezydencjonalny w ramach projektu ACT_IN_OUT Stefana Kornackiego. Instalacja Stock For Future _ Emotions opowiada o lokalnej wspólnocie, jej codzienności i relacji z czasem poprzez audio-wizualne środki wyrazu.

  • Mammoth Ulthana

Mammoth Ulthana is a music duo of Jacek Doroszenko and Rafał Kołacki based on a combination of traditional acoustic instruments, field recordings and various electronics. This blend creates a sort of unique and intense musical space build on a strong basis and filled with many unforeseen sound events. The band's sound style is based on a hypothetical tribe called the Mammoth Ulthana who roamed the north in a previous era when life was a struggle for survival. It was a community made up of shamans and paladins of Nature, where everyone gained the knowledge and power to maintain inner balance by entering the spiritual world of sound. The Mammoth Ulthana were mediators in their culture, communicating with the spirits on behalf of the community to ease anxieties, resolve outstanding issues, and provide gifts. The musicians have attempted to bring the tribe back to modern times, using the language of electroacoustic music and combining sounds created through modern technology. By releasing traumatic experiences that affect the spirit, they restore balance and bring the body and mind of the individual to wholeness. They invoke the supernatural realm to find solutions to problems plaguing the community. During the concert in Iceland the musicians will present a slightly different, more electronica-oriented set of compositions and video visuals.

To ingerencje w codzienność tworzące mikro-spektakle i sytuacje z pogranicza.

The artist in his praxis, the effect of which can be an object, video or installation, creates a kind of paratheatrical momentum. The creation itself opens up a new narrative, the narrative of the creator, the alter-reality in the here and now. With their works, the artists create a situation in which their product or they themselves meet with the viewer. However, the lack of a prelude, followed by applause and bow, means that there are no borders between art and everyday life, especially if it enters public spaces and becomes an element within the space. The artwork can become an ambient background for shopping or visiting a bank, perhaps it also attracts the viewers attention for longer periode of time without the need to participate in rituals related to gallery or theater spaces, which are still exclusive and inaccessible to many.

In the second edition of the VOR / WIOSNA, the festival is decentralized and dispersed in three towns: Egilsstaðir, Eskifjörður and Seyðisfjörður. The works are placed in various locations:

swimming pool, bank, cinema, grocery store, park, shopping center, but also the space of the MMF / Slaturhusið cultural center. They are interventions in everyday life that create micro-performances and borderline situations. The works present a wide range of topics: from performance, live ambient set, sculptures in parks, to visual fairy tales told by artificial intelligence.

All created by young polish artists living in Iceland or have lived here or are just dreaming of coming here
